I was recently at a garage sale where I spotted a 1956 Ford F-600 dually flat bed for sale. I had visions of making it into a slammed rat rod hauler just like this 1950 Reo. Unfortunately, the three trucks I already have fill my garage space and I don’t have room to take on a big project like this one. If you’re interested in an unusual project, you can find this one for sale here on Hemmings.com with an asking price of $23.900. Being offered for sale by Worldwide Vintage Autos in Denver, Colorado, it looks like most of the hard work has been done and this one is ready for a new owner. Check it out!
The interior is mostly stock with the exception of a few gauges and a cow hide seat cover. The real story is what’s underneath…
Yep, that isn’t an old tired V8 from 1950. You are looking at a 500+ horsepower, 650+ lb. ft. of torque 2006 Duramax turbo diesel! It is backed by an Allison 6-speed transmission and is said to “absolutely HAUL…” If you’ve never done a modern drive train conversion in an older truck, they are not easy. Hours of fabrication, fitting, wiring, and patience goes into a build like this.
You can see the aggressive “z” in the frame to lay the rockers on the ground. The chassis is from a 1984 C30 dually and features full air ride front and rear. Speaking of rear: The rear end is an International 4700 unit with disc brakes! The front also features discs and this big truck is sure to go fast and stop well. Overall, this is a really cool build and should be a fun ride for a new owner. How about a big goose-neck car hauler with some other hot rods on the back? Yes please!
