I’d bet most of you reading this article are car people. Whether you are new to the hobby or are a multi-generational gear head, you probably dream about the perfect space where you can work on your projects. Even if you already have a nice shop or garage, chances are it could use some upgrades or you would make some sort of changes. One of the coolest things you can do is add some vintage decor to your space. Whether your budget allows for genuine vintage signs or you can only afford reproductions, some garage art is always cool to display and can take your space from typical to amazing. Let’s check out some options and drop us a comment on what your ideal addition would be.
One easy and budget-conscious way to add vintage decor is to pick up some small and (usually) inexpensive oil cans. They can typically be had at garage sales, auctions or on-line for under $10 each and can make for a nice display. You can also find entry-level automobilia like signs and clocks for reasonable prices as long as you are willing to have less-than-perfect pieces. Also, there are a ton of automotive-themed items like carburetor lamps and license plate displays that can add to your decor without breaking your budget.
For those of you with a lot of space and/or higher budget, how about a “Harley in a Crate?” While this one looks like an amazing NOS Harley-Davidson board track racer still in its original shipping crate, it is a reproduction. You can find it advertised here on Hemmings.com. Sold out of Brighton, Michigan, they go for $2,500 each. The ad describes it as “All steel construction with barn find patina very authentic looking vintage motorcycle piece.” It looks pretty cool to me.
For those of you who want a real statement piece for your collection, how about an authentic vintage neon sign still new in the crate? This Buick sign sold for over $8,000 at the Mecum 2019 Las Vegas auction. You can read more about this awesome sign here on Mecum.com.
We hope this article has given you some good ideas on ways to improve your space. Feel free to drop us a comment and let us know what you are a fan of or share a photo from your collection!
