While this 1966 Chevrolet C20 pickup looks pretty rough with its dents and hacked fenders, what lies underneath is the true story. This old truck rides on a full 2001 Corvette chassis and drivetrain! Just like a Corvette, the hood is a reverse-tilt unit and probably gets a ton of attention when raised. This package can be found for sale here on Hemmings.com with an asking price of $19,900. While that may be quite a chunk for a beat-up old truck, try buying a 2001 Corvette and 1966 Chevy by themselves, let alone the hours and hours of fabrication/modification time. Let’s check out more of this ride and let us know what you think of it!
Here is the heartbeat of this old Chevy…A 5.7 liter LS1 backed by a Tremec T-56 transmission and 3.42 rear gears. It’s a little hard to tell from the photos exactly how the pickup body is mounted on the corvette chassis. I would assume quite a bit of fab work was done. There is a photo that shows the rear suspension under the old wood bed.
Aside from the door panels, the interior is all Corvette. Due to the condition (and missing pieces) from the dash, I’m guessing the donor car was wrecked. Hopefully, the important systems still function. The ad doesn’t say anything specific about the donor car, but there is a link to a video showing off the truck.
Here you can see just how much was chopped out of the length of the bed to fit the Corvette wheelbase. Too bad the front fenders had to be trimmed so much. They look a little rough and give the truck a bit of a “hacked” look. The new owner could take some time and clean up the body. At least the hard work seems to be done with regard to fabrication and fitting. This looks like a fun project to drive and work on, what do you think?
