Up For Auction: 1951 Ford F1 Rat Rod

This 1951 Ford F1 pickup is a pretty cool looking rat rod. While the flames won’t be everyone’s taste, they fit this truck well and when combined with the wheel color, tie in well. It is up for auction here on Mecum.com. It is lot F68 and will be sold at the Mecum Kansas City event which will be held December 5th through 7th. Let’s take a closer look at this cool truck.

The interior “bones” look fairly stock, but the leather on the bench seat is handsome. The weathered wood console on the floor is a nice touch. The door panels feature vintage Ford signs and help with the overall theme.

The engine is a 239 cubic inch Flathead V8. It features some old-school go-fast goodies including an Offenhauser intake, dual carbs, and dual exhaust. The engine is mated to a 3-speed transmission and delivers power to the ground through 3.92 gears out back.

The bed sideboards aren’t for everyone and are easily removed if the new owner chooses. If it was my truck, I may think about dropping the suspension a bit. You can see from this angle, it has a decent rake, but my style would be a bit lower. How about you? What would you change on this truck, if anything?
