For ten days in January, central Florida will be hosting one of the biggest collector car, motorcycle, and memorabilia auctions of the year! The annual Mecum event in Kissimmee, Florida has grown into an epic auction with 3500 vehicles of every shape and size selling between January 2nd to 12th. Not only can you find everything from seven-figure supercars to low-priced pickups, but you can also find rat rods! Let’s take a look at some of the ratty offerings up for auction and check out the updated auction results!
This 1929 Essex is lot J61.1 and can be found here on Mecum.com and sold for $17,600. You can see this car has a nasty attitude and I love it! Dark brown (almost black) paint and black accents with a huge engine sticking up make for a sinister combination. The engine is a 454 cubic inch V8 mated to a Turbo 400 tranny. The big rat motor is topped with a tunnel ram and dual 600 cfm Holley carbs. Other mechanical goodies include the following: 12-inch rear end, 2×4 tube frame, and 1948 Ford front axle. The top has been chopped 6 inches and features a tilt-out windshield with factory suicide doors. Overall, a very cool ride that probably won’t go for a ton of money.
Lot L44 is a beast! You are looking at a 1940 International and it can be found here on Mecum.com and sold for $55,000. There isn’t a ton of information in the ad, but as you can see, it features a modern diesel engine. The power plant is a 5.9 liter Cummins and without a hood, the air intake, exhaust stack, and turbo are out in the open for everyone to enjoy. If you’ve ever wanted to roll coal in a vintage rat rod, this looks like a winner! What do you think of the modern wheels and off-road tires?
This 1929 Ford Model A isn’t too ratty, but it still fits in the category. It is lot L85 and can be found here on Mecum.com and sold for $25,300. The black paint with orange trim, wheels, and engine make for a cohesive theme, which is pretty good looking. Certainly not everyone’s taste, but it easily changed if the new owner chooses. How cool is that 426 elephant Hemi sticking up to the top of the windshield!?!
How about those of you that don’t have the room or budget for a full-size rat rod? Well, Mecum also has a large automobilia auction where you can find vintage signs, oil cans, and even pedal cars. Don’t worry, if you miss the auction, we’ll give you an update in January on where the bidding on these cars ended up. If you are a bidder, good luck!
